I'm Rob Nicholson. I live in York where I started teaching guitar in 2018, and I am available for lessons in the surrounding areas. I am an electric, acoustic and bass guitarist with over 20 years playing experience and 7 years experience teaching, currently teaching at three primary schools in York amongst offering private guitar tuition. I am passionate about guitar and music in general. I specialise in metal and rock music, being a fan of bands and artists like Black Sabbath, Rush, Dream Theater, Rory Gallagher, The Cure, Siouxsie And The Banshees and Pantera amongst numerous others. I am also openminded to lots of others styles and enjoy Blues, Jazz/Fusion, Indie, Classical and Pop styles.
I have a good understanding of music theory and various techniques including slide, fingerstyle, legato, alternate picking, flatpicking, bending and vibrato and sweep picking. I am a big fan of extended range instruments and can teach potential students how to get the most out of 7 and 8 string guitars. I have taken a number of exams through RGT@LCM and have achieved a distinction at grade 6 acoustic guitar and a distinction at grade 8 electric guitar. As mentioned above Rock and Metal styles are my speciality but I am knowledgeable about Jazz, Blues, Funk and Popular styles and can teach you how to play in all these styles and learn songs in a specific genre.
I charge £30 an hour for lessons on electric or acoustic guitar or £16 for a 30 minute lesson. I have an Enhanced DBS check certificate and I am happy to teach children from the age of 8 and adults of all ages. Lessons take place in my own home but I am able to travel to your residence for lessons for a small extra fee depending on distance. I also offer online lessons over zoom for £25 an hour.
Whether you are wanting to learn to play for fun or looking to take grades and learn the in's and out's of guitar and music theory, I possess the knowledge and skills to get you there.
